Breast cancer treatment options by stage
Presentations and Publications
Treatment approaches for breast cancer are applied according to the stage of the disease. However, the heterogeneity of breast cancer means that response to therapy and a systematic approach to treatment cannot be derived and treatment regimens must be determined on a patient-by-patient basis. However, certain treatment protocols that offer potential for the most likely success can be followed if the menopausal status of the woman and the hormone receptor status of the tumour are known.
Within this framework, the management of a patient may depend on additional factors including size/staging of the tumour and importantly patient preference. The final treatment selected by the patient will depend on the individual circumstances making it difficult to treat the disease following a systematic treatment algorithm.
